One of the healing understandings we had in Lemuria — and one I still teach today — is that every uncomfortable experience is a gift. Every single time. Confusion is a gift. Lack of clarity is a gift. Fear is a gift. Discomfort is a gift. Even lack of abundance, conflict, physical pain, and despair are gifts. And not because suffering is somehow noble or spiritual. It’s not. They show us where our thoughts or beliefs are out of alignment with the way our higher self sees things. Your higher self sees you, your life, and everything from the vantage point of love and light. Your higher self never looks upon your life and says, “This is good. That is bad. This should be happening. That should not be happening.” That's a limited, human perspective. Under the veil of human consciousness, we judge, we label, we resist. And we usually push against or complain about whatever it is we do not want. And when our thoughts run counter to the way our higher self sees a situation, we feel it. That gap is what creates the negative emotion. Every time. So, when emotional or physical discomfort appears, it’s a valuable message. “Please pay attention. Something important is going on." “There’s a thought here that’s not aligned with love.” “There’s a place within you that’s ready for healing.” Take a breath. And instead of immediately trying to push the feeling away, gently ask yourself: “What is this showing me?” “What thought or belief is creating this feeling?” “How is my higher self seeing this differently?” (Placing a hand over your heart often makes this easier.)
Do any of these sound familiar? (I’ve done all of them myself, by the way. Thousands of times.) When we spend our lives avoiding or complaining about discomfort, we miss the message. And we miss the gift. We miss the opportunity to heal. In last week’s newsletter, I talked about the huge energetic “splinter” I received the day before teaching my Elven workshop in Tokyo. It was very uncomfortable. The timing felt terrible. And yes, part of me could have gone straight into fear. But because I recognized what was happening, I was able to meet the experience differently. I didn’t assume anything was wrong, and I didn’t fight against it. I acknowledged it and accepted it. And as I relaxed into it, I could ask what the experience was showing me. That experience reminded me of something I’ve taught for many years: The discomfort was not a problem to be solved. It was a message. It was a gift. It showed me where I needed to shift the way I had been thinking about myself, my abilities, and my future. And it showed me where healing was already unfolding for me. When you feel confused, the confusion is showing you something. When you feel afraid, the fear is showing you something. When you feel lack, the feeling of lack is showing you something important. Every time you feel hurt, rejected, unsupported, uncertain, or overwhelmed, that uncomfortable feeling is a loving message from your own higher self. It’s showing you the gap between how you’re thinking about something and how your higher self is. And that gap is where healing becomes possible. Consider it to be something important asking for your loving attention. This is one of the ancient understandings of Lemurian Healing. We don’t look at fear, confusion, or discomfort as enemies. We look at them as messengers of love. We listen for the message. We ask what’s being shown to us, and we relax into it. And most importantly, we allow the healing to unfold. It’s also essential for anyone who feels called to help others heal. Because a true healer does not simply try to make discomfort disappear. A true healer understands that discomfort has meaning. A true healer understands that negative emotion is showing us the gap between the way we are seeing something and the way our divine, eternal higher self sees it. A true healer learns how to meet that place with love, acceptance, and higher wisdom. This is the healing wisdom of Lemuria, and it’s part of what I teach in Lemurian Healing today. Registration is officially open for my Lemurian Healing event in the Vancouver area next month. If you live in British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, or anywhere in the Pacific Northwest, I would love to have you join me. I’ll be sharing ancient Lemurian understandings of healing, practical insights you can bring into your own healing work, and a guided Lemurian Healing meditation. There’ll also be time for Q&A. Event details: Friday, August 14, 2026 Tickets are available here: lemurianhealing.com/vancouver David |
A mix of ancient wisdom, practical tips, and helpful insights about healing and spiritual growth—every week in your inbox. For more than 25 years, I’ve been helping spiritual seekers remember who they truly are, consciously connect with their higher selves, and understand why they chose to be here on Earth at this time. If you’re on a spiritual path (and I know that you are), can you relate to this? 👉 You love any opportunity to learn more about who you are. Of course you do. So do I. We love learning about our past lives, our spirit guides, the agreements we’ve made with other souls, and the deeper connections we share with certain people in this lifetime. There’s so much to discover about yourself beyond what meets the eye. Years ago, I learned something that completely fascinated me: Each of us is born...
I still remember the first time I discovered energy healing. It was the first day of my first Healing Touch workshop, and we were learning how to sense subtle energy with our hands. And I could feel it. I could actually feel invisible energy with my hands. It was mind blowing. What amazed me almost as much was that everyone else in the room could feel it too. People of different ages, backgrounds, religions, cultures, and life experiences were all discovering that they could sense and work...
Your healing is a grand conspiracy. As you’re reading these words right now, you’re healing. Even if you’re not aware of it, healing is happening within you 24 hours a day. Here’s why. Everything in the Universe is on a path of growth and evolution and expansion. Change is constant. And healing is a perpetual part of that process. Your body is made up of trillions of cells. Every one of those cells is doing its best to become healthier and more balanced within the environment it currently...
