Healers don’t heal people

Most people misunderstand what a healer actually does.

They believe that when healing happens, it’s the doctor, therapist or energy healer who causes it—that Person A did something to create healing in Person B.

I’ve been a healer for nearly three decades, and I can tell you very clearly:

Healers do not heal people.

And neither do doctors.

I know how that sounds. So let me explain.

In the late 1990s, I served as a volunteer healer at a local hospital.

The hospital had a wonderful program. Patients could request energy healing, and volunteer healers would come in and visit the people on that day’s list.

I had been doing this work for about six months, and I loved it. I was learning so much, so quickly.

I worked with people who had been badly injured in motorcycle crashes, people going through chemotherapy, people approaching the end of their lives, and the family members sitting beside them.

I would walk through the hospital with a clipboard of healing requests and a small boombox so I could play healing music during the sessions.

One afternoon, I knocked gently on a patient’s door and popped my head in.

“Hi, I'm David. I’m here to give you a healing session, if this is a good time.”

The woman sat up slightly in bed and beamed at me. Her smile was so open. Her energy was so welcoming.

And in that moment, I realized that all the healing that would happen for her that day had happened in those first ten seconds.

She invited me in, I started playing the healing music CD, and I gave her a full energy healing session.

But I knew in my heart that the true healing had already taken place when I first said hello.

I can't explain how I knew, but I knew.

As soon as she had realized who I was and why I was there, something inside her relaxed and opened. For a moment, she forgot about her physical ailments and the fact she was stuck in a hospital bed.

My presence had allowed her to heal. And I could sense her healing happening in real time.

That experience was a major turning point in my understanding of healing and the role of a healer.

It has guided my healing work ever since and it’s one of the most important things I teach aspiring healers.

This is how I explain it to my healing students…

Your job as a healer is to create the best possible opportunity for someone to heal.

You are not responsible for the outcome.

You cannot force someone to heal.

Because healing is an inside job.

All healing is self-healing.

Your body has an incredible ability to heal itself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

In fact, you are the only person who can actually heal you.

A doctor, naturopath, therapist or acupuncturist can contribute to your healing. So can medication, surgery, massage, natural remedies or energy healing.

All of these things can support the healing process.

But none of them can cause you to heal.

No healer can make you heal. They simply create an opportunity for healing.

The person receiving the healing will heal to whatever level they're ready to heal in that moment.

So, what can healers do to create a healing opportunity?

We can create an environment—both physical and energetic—that allows a person to fully relax and feel safe.

We can support them, reassure them and uplift them.

We can help them become more receptive to the healing that is already happening within them.

We can use energetic techniques to facilitate the process.

But the healing itself always comes from inside.

This is how I understand the legendary healing power of Master Jesus, arguably the greatest healer we know of.

When you stood before him, he did not see your sadness. He did not see your illness.

He did not see your habits of negative thought or the limitations you had accepted as real.

He saw the perfection of who you are. He saw you as a perfect being of love and light.

He saw you as your higher self in human form.

And when you stood in the energy field of that expanded, unconditionally loving consciousness, of course you healed!

His presence created such a powerful environment that it was easy to allow your own, natural healing to take place.

This is the same understanding of healing we held in Lemurian times.

We all knew that healing was a personal journey of self-healing.

If we wanted to assist someone, we understood that our role was to create a loving, high-vibrating environment so that the natural, divine process of healing could unfold.

Understanding this made being a healer much easier.

It freed us from the burden that so many well-intentioned healers carry today: the belief that they are personally responsible for making someone better.

As a healer, you are not responsible for another person’s healing.

You are responsible for the energy, consciousness and intention you bring into the room.

We all have the capacity to heal ourselves. But that doesn’t mean we’re supposed to walk this human journey alone.

There are more than eight billion people on this planet. We are meant to support and assist each other.

Sometimes another person’s loving presence creates the exact opportunity we need to relax, open our hearts, and allow our own healing to begin.

That is the true role of a healer… to be that presence.

And in my experience, that’s what makes the very best healers so effective.

In September, we will once again be opening the doors to the Lemurian Healing™ Practitioner Certification Course.

If you’re on a spiritual path (and I know that you are), can you relate to this? 👉 You love any opportunity to learn more about who you are. Of course you do. So do I. We love learning about our past lives, our spirit guides, the agreements we’ve made with other souls, and the deeper connections we share with certain people in this lifetime. There’s so much to discover about yourself beyond what meets the eye. Years ago, I learned something that completely fascinated me: Each of us is born...

I still remember the first time I discovered energy healing. It was the first day of my first Healing Touch workshop, and we were learning how to sense subtle energy with our hands. And I could feel it. I could actually feel invisible energy with my hands. It was mind blowing. What amazed me almost as much was that everyone else in the room could feel it too. People of different ages, backgrounds, religions, cultures, and life experiences were all discovering that they could sense and work...

Your healing is a grand conspiracy. As you’re reading these words right now, you’re healing. Even if you’re not aware of it, healing is happening within you 24 hours a day. Here’s why. Everything in the Universe is on a path of growth and evolution and expansion. Change is constant. And healing is a perpetual part of that process. Your body is made up of trillions of cells. Every one of those cells is doing its best to become healthier and more balanced within the environment it currently...
