Uncovering your life’s purpose in a few simple steps

For years I asked the big questions. What's my purpose? Why am I here? What's my mission in life?

I would spend hours in metaphysical bookshops, hoping a title would jump out at me and give me an answer. I went to spiritual seminars and private readings. All the while, I was looking outside of me for the answer.

Then a piece of Lemurian wisdom turned my whole search around.

I want to share it with you, because it might do for you what it did for me. But fair warning: it starts with something you might not expect.

You are already fulfilling your primary purpose. Right now. Today.

“I planned this?”

Lemurians understood that none of us shows up in physical form by accident. Incarnating takes detailed planning and coordination. It’s intentional.

This means you chose this lifetime. You created the plan. You chose your parents, the circumstances of your birth, and who you'd meet with when you got here. Plus, you had passionate ideas about what you wanted to experience and create in this lifetime.

You are here following a life blueprint that you created for you.

Every experience you have, whether you enjoy it or not, adds to your growth and evolution. That was part of the plan.

When I heard this Lemurian perspective for the first time, I felt the truth of it in my heart right away. And it turned my search for purpose upside down.

"Wait a minute. I chose this. I'm living out a plan I put together so I could come here."

So, from a Lemurian point of view, the fact that you're here means you're already fulfilling your primary purpose, which is to have this particular life experience.

And to be able to experience a human life is rare and special, indeed. Yes, there are eight billion people on the planet, but compared to the size of the Universe, precious few get to incarnate here in human form.

You're here on a very exclusive journey. Congratulations!

“But I'm here to do something more”

I know what you're thinking. That's all well and good, David, but I know I'm here to do something more than just live out my life.

You're right. Most of us come in with specific ideas about what we want to create and experience. But your mission usually isn't one single thing. It changes with the seasons of your life. It evolves as you do.

Maybe you’ve been a caregiver for someone. Maybe raising kids was the center of everything for much of your life. Maybe you've been a teacher, a healer, a baker, an artist, or you're protecting animals or the environment.

Maybe your mission has simply been to be you so you could gently influence the people around you.

The main point is this: you came here to do more than one thing. If you're still searching for your mission, look back over the roles you've played and what you've accomplished, and acknowledge that those were your missions at the time.

“I need to fulfill my assignment”

I sometimes hear this from clients and students. They feel they’ve been given a specific assignment for this lifetime and their mission is to complete what they’ve been assigned.

The thing is, nobody gave you one. Nobody told you what your mission is. You made the plan. Yes, you consulted your friends, teachers, and other beings on the non-physical side, but it was always your plan and your choice. You had free will before you were born, and you have it now.

You're not here to fulfill someone else’s priorities, and you don't owe anyone a particular outcome. So, if you've been waiting for someone to tell you what you're supposed to do, take your power back. This is your lifetime.

Where to look next

If you want to know how you are meant to express your unique self, the clues are closer than you think. No bookshop, workshop, or YouTube video required.

They're in the things you enjoy, the things that bring you joy, the things you never get tired of.

I'm not a classroom teacher, but I really enjoy teaching. I love helping people experience clarity and guiding them to find their own answers. For me, that's a clue and I've followed it.

Here's an exercise I give my clients. Grab a piece of paper and list everything you loved doing as a kid: ice skating, drawing, making up stories, hanging out with friends, whatever it was. Why childhood? Because you didn't have so many filters and veils back then.

Then, look through your list and be honest with yourself. Is this something I still love? Does it feel like an essential part of me?

And then look at what you've been ignoring. What have you pushed to the back burner or simply avoided? What excuses have you been telling yourself about why this isn’t important?

Once you spot those things, don't hesitate. Ask yourself, How can I do this more? What form can this interest of mine take now?

The more you embrace those parts of yourself, the more they grow. And then inspiration starts to flow. Opportunities start showing up.

Here’s the takeaway from this week’s missive.

Your primary purpose? You're already doing it.

Your mission in life can take different forms at different times, and what you love doing is often a clue.

You made a plan for this lifetime with passion and purpose, and here you are. It's all you.

Aloha,
David

Every year, I feel the energy shift on October 1st. Each calendar month has its own vibration, and the move from September to October is often the most noticeable one of the year. This year, I’m expecting it to feel even stronger. Here's why. According to Lemurian Numerology, October is a "1" month (1+0=1). It's the month of creation, genesis and new beginnings. If you were following me back in January, I explained that 2026 is a "1" year: the first year of a brand-new nine-year cycle. So,...

Happy Equinox, wherever you are in the world! One of the enduring themes of every equinox is balance. For me, it’s always a helpful reminder because, although my intention is to stay balanced as best as possible, I don’t always succeed. And so I’m grateful the equinox comes around twice a year. Seeing it coming up on the calendar always makes me reflect on how deeply balanced we were as Lemurians. Our concept of "balanced" back then encompassed so much more than simple dualities like...

If you’re a healer, have you ever tried to pin down exactly what's missing in your healing work? Maybe you've told yourself it's confidence. Or more practice. Or a totally new modality. Maybe you've wondered if it's a level of spiritual development you haven't yet reached. In nearly 20 years of teaching Lemurian Healing, I've watched student after student search for that missing piece, whether they're just starting out or already have years of client work behind them. And the answer is rarely...
